NASA is making final preparations for the first spacewalk in 2024, and you can watch the event live on Thursday, June 13.

Astronauts Tracy C. Dyson and Matt Dominik will exit the International Space Station via the Quest airlock to begin work on removing a faulty electronics box, known as a radio frequency group, from a communications antenna on the orbital base’s starboard truss.

The two astronauts will also spend time studying microbes collected from the ISS’s exterior, which will help scientists gain a clearer understanding of how microbes survive and thrive outside of an Earth-orbiting satellite.

This will be Dyson’s fourth spacewalk, but Dominic’s first. Both astronauts arrived at the ISS in March, Dyson aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and Dominic aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon as part of Crew 8.

Thursday’s walk was the last one conducted by NASA in November 2023, but three more will be conducted over the next three weeks, with the remaining two scheduled for June 24 and July 2. One other spacewalk was conducted on the ISS in April this year, with two astronauts and overseen by the Russian space agency, Roscosmos.

How to watch

Coverage of Thursday’s spacewalk will begin at 6:30 a.m. ET, with the spacewalk itself starting at approximately 8 a.m. ET.

The entire spacewalk, which will last approximately six and a half hours, will be streamed live on NASA+, NASA TV, the NASA app, NASA’s YouTube channel and the NASA website, and can also be viewed in the embedded player at the top of this page.

Dyson can be identified by the red stripes on his suit, while Dominic’s suit has none.

Multiple cameras will follow the astronauts during their time outside the ISS, and live audio feeds will also be heard as they communicate with the Mission Control Center on Earth. Commentary from NASA will also be provided to help viewers fully understand the various activities the two astronauts will be performing.
